Barely 20 years after the abandonment of the corset, followed by the and the curve loving and 40s. The wasp waist was once again introduced into fashion and reigned supreme for the next 10 years or more. Say what you will about the aesthetic, to achieve the most fashionable look a woman would either have to be very small or very uncomfortable. And living in the modern era, I just don't have a lot of appreciation for a design ideal that doesn't take comfort into consideration. The idea of volume and extravagance as a response to the austerity of the 1940s and WWII is interesting though and certainly was pretty and feminine.
Enter John Galliano's Christian Dior haute couture collection. And WOW! There is no doubt that John Galliano is an artist and a visionary in his own right. In this collection, he has taken on the task of re-interpreting the history of the house of Dior in a modern landscape and it's just to-die for.
These are so New Look and totally modern. I LOVE LOVE the icy blue cowl neck and nude lining.
These two remind me a little bit more of who Dior himself called "The Master of us all" but they are all grand and lovely and illustrate the timeless of fashion.
