In developing my ideas for the perennial meadow

Scampston Hall, UK, perennial meadow, design Piet Oudolf.
In developing my ideas for the perennial meadow it is this dilemma which has lead to the concept of theme plants. I restrict myself to a maximum of five, but do sometimes bend the rule by using different species or cultivars of the same genus. I have a grassy meadow in my own garden using low growing molinia grasses, but have ended up using three different cultivars to increase the diversity without diluting the idea. In another place, I have adjacent borders using the same planting scheme, but in one I use a tall growing pennisetum grass and in the other, another, more arching, cultivar. These theme plants are randomly planted at intervals across my schemes to create a matrix within which the other theme plants are spread to create a block of vegetation that as a whole represents my main idea.
If perennials have one weakness it is that they are dynamic and this, of course, is one of their strengths as well. In spring they start growing, later they flower and when this ceases they tend to slip into a decline. If carefully chosen we can extend the period our schemes look presentable by including plants that not only look good in flower but both before this starts and, later, when maybe they make seed heads. Inevitably perennials die back and this means as structural elements within a garden's design they are weak. This weakness was shared by the traditional herbaceous border, however, these were typically presented within a strong framework, often created by a wall or hedge as background. However, our new-look perennial borders with their need to draw us into the ideas they foster need to be entered and not presented as an abstract tableau set within a picture frame.
To overcome the weaknesses I see in perennials I follow a number of strategies to create year round structure. Firstly, I select some plants that stand up throughout the winter months such as miscanthus grasses and monardas. Secondly, I organise the meadow into a series of crisply defined beds separated by bold purposeful paths. And, finally, I create a framework of some sort; perhaps with shrubs, hedges or fencing that define the internal structure of the garden.
Such beds can be arranged into a labyrinth that leads visitors on a journey amidst the plants they contain and even in small gardens this can be made to work. Admittedly, these scaled down schemes lack the grandeur of the parkland meadows we seek to emulate, but when the plants are well chosen and grouped as I have described they are more than capable of presenting a clear idea that can exert a powerful influence upon the garden spaces they occupy.

To understand the core underpinning contemporary planting

Bramdean House, UK, traditional mirror bordersTo understand the core underpinning contemporary planting designs one must understand that the emphasis now rests upon ideas rather than visual impact; colour borders are out and concept borders are in. Plants are not used simply for their physical attributes but because they in some way communicate an idea - the lost prairies of  our homeland, the vanishing European wildflower meadows, our childhood memories of foreign holidays or our concerns for nature, plants and the animals that we yearn to conserve.
Big ideas seem to need large scale borders to make their point. Looking at the landmark schemes of the last ten years or so, few have been made in small domestic scale gardens. Rather, today's gardening magazines are awash with horizon-filling schemes that have transformed the atmosphere of public parks and extensive private estates - naturalistic is the key word. Those of us with smaller gardens may well be inspired to embrace the new styles we admire but find it difficult to adapt the examples we encounter to the confines of our less generous plots. All too often I have seen such attempts fail and have myself been responsible for some wooly attempts, but once you understand the underlying principles it does become possible to adapt the new approach to even the smallest of garden spaces; however, some compromises along the way are inevitable.
Once one understands that the key is in creating an overall image rather than concentrating on finer detailing, progress becomes possible, but it does need the plant collector within us to show restraint. If one word characterises new, so-called, naturalistic perennial plantings it is repetition. The same plants are repeated throughout a planting scheme to both emphasise the idea that a plant represents, but also to strengthen its visual impact - a few red flowered clovers (Trifolium rubens) are pretty, but you may need fifty or more plants across a field of deschampsia grasses to communicate the idea of an open meadow. The corollary here is that the more you repeat a plant the less room remains available to introduce other different plants to the scheme.

hus worry tends to perpetuate itself in a circular way

by * Worry is a mechanism of our psyche that prompts us to do something. The prompting energy is fear – usually fear of some consequence. Because it is fear, the person tends to avoid thinking about it. Thus worry tends to perpetuate itself in a circular way – the fear causes non-action, and non-action further causes worry.
* Anxiety is a fear whose object is nonspecific or vague, whereas worry is about something specific and identified. Anxiety is the result of repeated unprocessed fears that have accumulated in one’s subconscious. It has become a vague feeling about an impending misfortune but which cannot be dealt with because it is unspecified. To resolve it, it must first be converted to specific worries, and then one can apply the guidelines on how to handle worry.
* Panic is an overwhelming fear that makes the person confused and unclear about what to do. This is the accumulated result of many fears, worries and anxieties that have not been resolved and not been handled well. It sometimes results in panic attacks, those inexplicable feelings that may not have any immediate cause but which just manifests in the person.
* Phobias are fear-reactions that are (a) out of proportion to the actual danger, such as jumping and shrieking at the sight of a rat or cockroach, or (b) irrational, such as trembling when seeing the photo of a spider.
* Trauma is a psychological “wound” that can still cause distress in a person. Strictly speaking, acquired fears are really traumas in varying degrees of intensity. But a trauma becomes pathological when it causes periodic distress such as nightmares, intense reactions to anything that reminds one of it, or it severely disturbs one’s daily life and work. .
* Envy is a more complex emotion, since it’s a mixture of a number of things: low self-esteem, resentment, and fear. We don’t envy the successes or achievements of those whom we can identify with, that is, those whom we love and care for. Their achievements are vicariously ours too. On the other hand, the achievements of those whom we cannot identify with, particularly those whom we resent, are felt as threats to our own self-esteem.
* Embarrassment involves a “loss of face” and being confused and perplexed at the same time. The embarrassment may not have been caused by anyone, as when one slips and falls down “disgracefully.” Hence there is no cause for anger toward anyone (except perhaps oneself). The action is withdrawal and hiding, not wanting to face people. At its root is the fear of what people might think or say. Shame is a similar feeling.

One day he was walking down the main street

According to the dictionary:
According to the New Testament: But it was what the world calls foolish that God chose to put the wise to shame with, and it was what the world calls weak that God chose to shame its strength with (Corinthians 1: 25-27).

According to Islam:
A wise man became a object of irony for the inhabitants of the city. One day he was walking down the main street with some of his disciples when a group of men and women began to insult him. The wise man went up to them and blessed them.
When they left, one of the disciples remarked: “They say terrible things, and you answer them with nice words.”
And the wise man replied: “Each one of us can only offer what he has.”
According to the Hassidic (Jewish) tradition: When Moses ascended to Heaven to write a certain part of the Bible, the Almighty asked him to place small crowns on some letters of the Torah. Moses said: “Master of the Universe, why draw these crowns?” God answered: “Because one hundred generations from now a man called Akiva will interpret them.”
“Show me this man’s interpretation,” asked Moses.
The Lord took him to the future and put him in one of Rabbi Akiva’s classes. One pupil asked: “Rabbi, why are these crowns drawn on top of some letters?”
“I don’t know.” Replied Akiva. “And I am sure that not even Moses knew. He did this only to teach us that even without understanding everything the Lord does, we can trust in his wisdom.”
A scene that I witnessed in 1997: Hoping to impress his master, a student of the occult whom I know read some manuals on magic and decided to buy the materials mentioned in the texts. With considerable difficulty he managed to find a certain type of incense, some talismans, a wooden structure with sacred characters written in an established order.
When we were having breakfast together with his master, the latter commented:
“Do you believe that by rolling computer wires around your neck you will acquire the efficiency of the machine? Do you believe that by buying hats and sophisticate clothes you will also acquire the good taste and sophistication of those who made them?
“Objects can be your allies, but they do not contain any type of wisdom. First practice devotion and discipline, and everything else will come to you later.”

Sorin has just got married to Andrea

“I saw only a tunnel, with a man pointing a gun at me and telling me to get out of the car.”
I saw a tunnel too, except this one led to a hotel in Rio de Janeiro, the Glória Hotel. I looked at that hotel, expected the worst and thought to myself: “it’s not fair, I’m only 26 years old!” Fair or not, in the early morning of 27 May 1974 I stood before death and could not see what was happening beside me. Just the tunnel and the hotel. But my story does not matter, it serves only to say that I understand perfectly well what Sorin is telling me in a bar lost in the middle of the Carpatian Mountains.
Sorin Miscoci’s calvary began on 28 March 2005, near Baghdad. He had been designated to spend a week there at the request of a Rumanian TV station and ended up being kidnapped for 55 days.
“Later on, when they freed me, the American security agents asked me how many people were there. And I told them: one. They laughed and said that just wasn’t possible. It was the psychologist who helped me, explaining that in situations like this, nothing in the surroundings has any importance. All you see is the focus of the crisis, what is threatening you, and you simply forget the rest.
Sorin has just got married to Andrea, who strokes his hand. We have been traveling together for three days and we will continue for another week. Cristina Topescu, an old friend who worked as a journalist in the same TV as Sorin, says that when the time came to mobilize the country, few colleagues came forward to speak to the President of the Republic, for fear of losing their jobs.
“I asked God for only one thing: to die with a bullet in the heart. I had already seen videos of prisoners being decapitated; I asked, begged to be shot,” adds Sorin.
Andrea gives him a kiss. He smiles, asks if I want to stay in that restaurant or if we should go to the only karaoke in Sibiu. I prefer to interrupt the conversation at that point – it was better to go and sing together.
On the way to the discotheque, I think about the black tunnel: without wanting to romanticize a dramatic situation, I felt that this happens to everyone. When we are faced with something that really threatens us, it is impossible to look around, although this is the correct and safer procedure. We can’t see clearly, use logic, gather information that can help us and those who try to get us out of that situation.
We reach the karaoke, drink some more, sing Elvis, Madonna and Ray Charles. Ours is an interesting group: Lacrima, who was abandoned by her mother when she was only two months old. Leonardo, who has just got over a depression that lasted two years. Cristina Topescu, who recently overcame difficult moments. Sorin and his 55 days in captivity, and Andrea, who almost lost the person she loved. And me, with scars all over my body and soul.
And even so we drank, sang and celebrated life. To have friends like these gives me more than hope, it makes me understand that the true survivors will never be victims to their torturers, because they manage to keep alive the most important thing in human beings: joy.

Juan always attended Sunday services at his parish

Juan always attended Sunday services at his parish. But then he began to find that the pastor always said the same things, so he stopped going to church.
On a cold winter’s night two months later, the pastor paid him a visit.
“He must have come to try to convince me to go back,” Juan thought to himself. He imagined he could not tell the real reason: those boring sermons. He had to find an excuse, and as he was thinking he pulled two chairs up close to the hearth and began talking about the weather.
The pastor said nothing. Juan, after some vain attempts to start up a conversation, sat in silence too. They both sat there without speaking, just looking at the fire for close to half an hour.
Then the pastor rose, and with the help of a branch that had not yet burned, pulled an ember aside and placed it far from the fire.
The ember, without enough heat to go on burning, began to go out. Juan quickly tossed it back into the middle of the fire.
“Good night,” said the pastor, rising to leave.
“Good night and many thanks,” answered Juan. “No matter how bright it is, an ember removed from the fire will end up going out quickly.
“No matter how clever a man may be, far from his neighbors he will never manage to conserve his heat and his flame.”

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream.
The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food.
The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him.
She did so without hesitation.
The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime.
But, a few days later, he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said. “I know how valuable this stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious.
“Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me this stone.”

“He estado pensando” dijo. “Sé cuán valiosa es esta piedra, pero se la devuelvo con la esperanza de que pueda obsequiarme algo mucho más precioso.”
“Deme lo que hay en su interior que le permitió regalarme la piedra”

Why do we have to listen to our hearts

“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?” the boy asked, when they had made camp that day.
“Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure.”
“But my heart is agitated,” the boy said. “It has its dreams, it gets emotional, and it’s become passionate over a woman of the desert. It asks things of me, and it keeps me from sleeping many nights, when I’m thinking about her.”
“Well, that’s good. Your heart is alive. Keep listening to what it has to say.”
“My heart is a traitor,” the boy said to the alchemist, when they had paused to rest the horses. “It doesn’t want me to go on.”
“That makes sense. Naturally it’s afraid that, in pursuing your dream, you might lose everything you’ve won.”
“Well, then, why should I listen to my heart?”
“Because you will never again be able to keep it quiet. Even if you pretend not to have heard what it tells you, it will always be there inside you, repeating to you what you’re thinking about life and about the world.”
“You mean I should listen, even if it’s treasonous?”
“Treason is a blow that comes unexpectedly. If you know your heart well, it will never be able to do that to you. Because you’ll know its dreams and wishes, and will know how to deal with them.
“My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer,” the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
“Every second of the search is an encounter with God,” the boy told his heart.
“Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him,” his heart said. “We, people’s hearts, seldom say much about those treasures, because people no longer want to go in search of them. We speak of them only to children. Later, we simply let life proceed, in its own direction, toward its own fate. But, unfortunately, very few follow the path laid out for them—the path to their destinies, and to happiness. Most people see the world as a threatening place, and, because they do, the world turns out indeed, to be threatening place.
“So, we, their hearts, speak more and more softly. We never stop speaking out, but we begin to hope that our words won’t be heard: we don’t want people to suffer because they don’t follow their hearts.”

I wish you enough rain to appreciate

(today a received an email from a very close friend of mine. I asked her if I could share it here, and she agreed)
Feb 14, 2011
Dear Friends,
Amongst all the activities I enjoy in London (shows, galleries, big parties etc…), the moment I enjoyed and cherished most was spending time with my 86 year old neighbor, who always took time to make me his own special coffee with a plate of cookies so graciously served to me on a white linen We used to spend hours talking…primarily me talking and he listening… with his advice whenever I asked.
Yesterday, I sent an email to him (the text is not mine) which was bounced back to me, and after having my husband (who is presently in London) check on him, I received a call to tell me that he had passed away on Jan 28th. My message of appreciation to him was a bit too late…
Below you find my message
Love
I.C.
Recently I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure.
Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the father said, ‘I love you, and I wish you enough.’
They kissed and the daughter left. The father walked over to the window where I was seated. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but I could not refrain from asking:
‘When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, ‘I wish you enough.’ May I ask what that means?’
He began to smile. ‘That’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone.’
He paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more.
‘When we said, ‘I wish you enough,’ we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them.’
Then turning toward me, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more..
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting…
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good- bye.

One of her favorite examples is the Inuktitut Windows 7 Home Premium language

Microsoft has Microsoft Office 2007 verified to be the market leader in terms of office computing, and they haven’t turn out to be this by chance, but by continuously working on their yields to offer ever better software, it is a really efficient office group software package which holds about everything you could ever need in a program to do your work, at home or in your office. It enables you to strap up the power of a strong brand with a very strong history in business software which makes sure you get top service for the money you’re paying, and with this edition being from 2007 you can be confident to get a good agreement at your local retailer or online. Because on the whole, each edition of Microsoft Office does the same. a good number of people will never need the highly developed features which the specialized versions offer, and they should be more than satisfied with the usual features. But with the 2007 version, Microsoft introduce a more attractive and simple user interface which makes worksheet editing or writing a lot easier for the standard human, since in the past their software menu was over packed and nestled so you really had to dig for the unusual options. With Office 2007 this is greatly Windows 7 enhanced and you’ll find that you’ll be working faster, better and more comfortably, because a smooth nice user interface also helps your eyes working longer without strain. This enables you to effort more efficiently and with larger ease, a very significant quality if you think about the fact that many people have to use these programs day after day in the workplace for sometimes 8 hours in a row. Microsoft Office 2007 makes your user experience better-off, easier and speedier. All the saving options are neatly put into one button, all the font editing is put in one box, and you’ll just be able to find your way around the software quickly and easily, with or without preceding information of Microsoft’s proposal. Every new Microsoft Office version is a product of this work, and if you’ve never had the chance to use such advanced tools in your workplace, you’ll be surprised at the rate at which these tools make your work more successful and enjoyable!
While visiting a government office in Vietnam nearly a decade ago, a Microsoft employee noticed one of the employees had Post-It? notes all the way around her computer monitor.
The notes weren’t daily “to-dos” or grocery office professional 2007 plus lists, but English-to-Vietnamese translations of common Microsoft Windows and Office commands such as “file,” “save” and “print.” At the time, there was no Microsoft software available in Vietnamese.“It dawned on us that our user experience could be localized even more in order to make our technology more available, and the Microsoft Local Language Program was born,” said Lauren Woodman, general manager of Microsoft’s Worldwide Education and Government programs.Full versions of Microsoft Windows, Office and Visual Studio are available in more than 35 languages, but with more than 6,000 languages spoken around the globe, millions miss out on the opportunity to use technology in their own without help, Woodman said. With that in mind, in 2004 Microsoft developed a Local Language Program to develop tools that would allow speakers to use Microsoft software in their own languages, eliminating the need for the government worker to use Post-Its to get her work done.
Today is International Mother Language Day, an annual event created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ), to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity. It’s a noteworthy day at Microsoft, where each year the Local Language Program works to expand and improve the way it brings technology to people in their own language or dialect, Woodman said.Since the company began building Language Interface Packs ( LIPs ) nearly a decade ago, 1.7 billion more people have used Microsoft products in their own language. Vietnamese, the language on the Post-Its that inspired the Local Language Program, is now the most frequently downloaded language pack.
A LIP is a free download that will add a language layer to a genuine version of Windows, Office or Visual Studio, Woodman said. It provides a roughly 80 percent localized experience by presenting the user interface – commands, dialogue boxes and more – in the user’s native language.“All of a sudden this door is open to someone to use technology in their native language,” Woodman Office Professional Plus 2010 said. “It’s pretty amazing to watch people light up when they see technology in their language, which in a lot of countries is not that accessible to folks. Then it becomes the very personal and intimate experience with technology that we are all used to.”
Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 are now available in 96 languages, 60 of which are supported by the Local Language Program, said Carla Hurd, senior program manager of Microsoft’s Local Language Program. The addition of each language and dialect brings with it the stories of people and cultures, many of whom are struggling to preserve their heritage and language. Hurd said that a video case study for the Maori language in New Zealand is one of her favorite examples. In New Zealand, 15 percent of the population is Maori, or indigenous Polynesian, yet only about a quarter of the Maori people speak their native language.“The Maori language is in decline, and people realized they had to do something to preserve their language. When the opportunity to translate our products into Maori came up, they jumped on the opportunity,” Hurd said.
In an increasingly high-tech world, languages must be spoken outside the home, said Te Taka Keegan, a senior lecturer at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. He spoke as part of a Microsoft Local Language Program video.“For languages to survive, they have to be used in normal, day-to-day activities. They can’t be only used in a classroom or language pockets,” Keegan said. “They have to be used in the home, they have to be used on the sporting field … if they can’t use Maori language texting each other, or talking on the computer, they’ll quickly switch off to English and our language will be doomed.”Hurd said hundreds of languages are endangered because people are forced to speak Office 2010 Pro a more mainstream or accessible language instead. When a language dwindles, the extinction of the culture isn’t far behind, she said.
Keegan, the New Zealand professor, agrees: “Languages and cultures go hand and hand. They’re intertwined,” he said. “When you learn a language you understand the culture, when you learn a culture you begin to understand the language.”Technology has a role to play as well, Hurd said, adding that “a language not found on the Internet is as good as dead.”
In some cases, connecting technology to a language may even help revitalize it, said Angela Cummings, Microsoft’s Windows localization lead.“Once a language is used in software or in a publication or on the Internet, it enables more people to work directly in that language,” Cummings said. “It’s a way to, for lack of a better word, validate those languages and show that they’re important enough to be used every day and in a new world where business isn’t conducted verbally anymore.” One of her favorite examples is the Inuktitut Windows 7 Home Premium language, spoken by a small population in northern Canada – the smallest population of all of the languages Microsoft supports, Cummings said.
“It’s really opened my eyes to the importance of providing software to people in various languages as well as the importance of language preservation,” Cummings said. “I love the pride and satisfaction they get out of it. There are not very many companies in the world where you get to release a product in a language for the first time, and directly impact the people who will be using it.”
Woodman said making productivity tools available in emerging markets benefits users, but also the economy.“If you can give people the productivity tools they need, it opens the door for greater economic opportunity for that country as a whole,” Woodman said. “We make great software, but at the end of the day you want people creating local solutions.”For example, someone in Malaysia using Visual Studio in their native language to create grocery store inventory software, which can help stores lower prices, which can help people afford more.According to Woodman: “This isn’t just about creating neat technology, it’s about helping people have the right tools to create the right environments and communities that they want to Microsoft Office 2010 live in.”

I was laughing so hard that tears the wire dvd were running down my face

One of the greatest worst 24 dvd movies ever made, "Birdemic: Shock and Terror," comes out on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow (you can also rent it from Netflix). In commemoration of this the oz dvd historic day, here is my feature on the film's New York City premiere in March of 2010.
A few minutes past midnight on Friday, a man in a gray suit the tribe dvd and bright red tie took to the stage of the IFC Center's Theater One and, to the applause of the sold-out audience, proudly waved a wire coat hanger in the air like an athlete brandishing the Olympic torch. This borderline deranged behavior would only draw an enthusiastic positive response at two places: a Joan Crawford impersonators' convention or the New the wild wild west York City premiere of "Birdemic: Shock and Terror," a eco-horror romantic thriller that has been dubbed "the next hilariously great cult movie" by no less an appropriate outlet than Vulture.com.
The hanger-wielding man in the suit was "Birdemic" writer/director James Nguyen, a the west wing dvd software salesman by day who boasted that he "went to the film school of Hitchcock cinema" during the introductory Q & A. Arguably, he also could've attended the film school of Ed Wood cinema, since "Birdemic" feels far more indebted to Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space" with its blend of ultra-low budget filmmaking and cuckoo bananas the x files dvd ecological message, than anything by the Master of Suspense.
To be clear: I mean that as a compliment. I was laughing so hard that tears the wire dvd were running down my face even before the end of the opening credits sequence, which blends title cards like "Moviehead Pictures Presents... A Moviehead Production" with the most artless, endless and pointless driving scenes true blood dvd since "Manos: The Hands of Fate." "Birdemic" is the rare film worthy of comparison to "Plan 9," "Troll 2," "Battlefield Earth" and "The Room" as one of the best bad movies ever made. A still of any of its laughably unconvincing two and a half men dvd bird-related special effects would be the ideal illustration in any reprinting of Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp', " particularly if placed alongside the paragraph that reads:
"In na?ve, or pure, Camp the essential element is seriousness, a seriousness that fails. Of course, not all seriousness that fails can be redeemed as Camp. Only that which has the proper mixture of the exaggerated, the fantastic, the passionate, and the na?ve."
Ed Wood had aliens threaten mankind for their use of atomic energy. Nguyen has two different characters -- an ornithologist and a treehouse-dwelling hippie -- deliver subtlety-free pro-environment monologues that pin the blame for the avian chaos on mankind's wasteful habits. During his introduction, Nguyen cribbed from an old Jack Warner line in his claim that the film was "not here to send a message. If I wanted to do that I'd use a post office." Yet "Birdemic"'s shock and terror is rooted in a kind of didactic ecological panic that makes M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" look relatively cogent in comparison.
My own personal measuring stick for camp movie greatness has five dimensions: poor acting, bad dialogue, enormous plot holes, technically incompetent filmmaking, and inexplicable personal touches indicative of the na?ve passion Sontag talked about. "Birdemic" hits them all. It has a leading man (Alan Bagh) who always looks like he just woke up from a nap. It has lines of dialogue like "That was a great movie! 'An Inconvenient Truth!'" It has characters who make hilariously bad decisions, like stopping for a leisurely outdoor picnic in the middle of a bird invasion. It has a timeline that makes absolutely no sense -- in one implausible and very busy week, the hero makes $1 million when his software company is acquired by Oracle, invents a new kind of non-silicon-based solar panel, builds a start-up company around it, convinces a venture capitalist to invest $10 million in his idea, gets a new girlfriend and is attacked by hundreds of eagles and vultures. Finally, "Birdemic" has maybe the worst sound mix of any film that has ever received a theatrical release in major venues around the country. (You know what the last line of the film is? Me neither. I couldn't hear it over the sound of the wind howling through the microphone.)

Judging by the set visit MTV was invited to stargate sg 1 dvd

One of the upcoming films we're most looking forward to (especially after this past weekend's stargate atlantis dvds ) is the Russell stargate atlantis seasons remake of the '80s classic smallville dvd Between Brand doing his best Dudley Moore impression and Helen Mirren as his trusty butler Hobson , that's more than enough incentive to get me in theaters.
But a new poster for the film just hit the Internet, and we have to admit, it makes a bold claim that we just don't agree with: that Arthur is "the world's only loveable billionaire." stargate dvd
Judging by the set visit MTV was invited to stargate sg 1 dvd, the first theatrical trailer for the film and Brand's overall persona, Arthur does look to be quite the loveable character. But the world's only loveable billionaire? Well that we've got to disagree with, because there are plenty of other movie billionaires that we love just as much as stargate sg1 season.

Their team’s findings May 26 at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society Download Office 2007

Bania and Loren Anderson of the Astrophysical Laboratory of Marseille in France discussed their team’s findings May 26 at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society Download Office 2007. Office 2007 download is on sale now!
Locating regions that form massive stars is like “putting pins on a map” to reveal the full structure of the Milky Way’s spiral arms, comments Patrick Thaddeus of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass. Gas and dust make the regions impossible to see in visible light, so astronomers have to resort to other wavelengths to trace them out.Office 2007 home is helpful Cheap Microsoft Office 2007.
The researchers inferred the existence of the star birth sites by observing them in both infrared and radio wavelengths using NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope and ground-based observatories in West Virginia and New Mexico. That combination of observations was able to detect the effects on surrounding hydrogen gas of the intense ultraviolet light emitted by newborn massive stars.Office 2007 Pro and Office 2007 Ultimate are powerfull Cheap Office 2010.
The newfound regions could provide new information about the chemical composition and evolution of the galaxy. Windows 7 and Windows 7 Professional make life wonderful Office 2010 Professional!
Massive stars are likely to die in supernova explosions, spilling their guts and seeding nearby regions of space with the material needed to make a greater variety of celestial objects, including planets.MS Office 2007 is the best invention in the world MS Windows 7.
Even if a large number of massive-star birth regions are found, it’s unclear whether they would make a significant contribution to the Milky Way’s overall star-formation rate, estimated to be the equivalent of five to ten suns a year, Bania said. That’s because behemoth stars, weighing as much as many suns Windows 7 Operating System, are rare beasts in the galaxy.Office 2010 download is available now!

So it may be fashion blasphemy to admit this

So it may be fashion blasphemy to admit this, but I've never been the biggest fan of Dior, and by Dior I mean .
Barely 20 years after the abandonment of the corset, followed by the and the curve loving and 40s. The wasp waist was once again introduced into fashion and reigned supreme for the next 10 years or more. Say what you will about the aesthetic, to achieve the most fashionable look a woman would either have to be very small or very uncomfortable. And living in the modern era, I just don't have a lot of appreciation for a design ideal that doesn't take comfort into consideration. The idea of volume and extravagance as a response to the austerity of the 1940s and WWII is interesting though and certainly was pretty and feminine.

Enter John Galliano's Christian Dior haute couture collection. And WOW! There is no doubt that John Galliano is an artist and a visionary in his own right. In this collection, he has taken on the task of re-interpreting the history of the house of Dior in a modern landscape and it's just to-die for.

These are so New Look and totally modern. I LOVE LOVE the icy blue cowl neck and nude lining.

These two remind me a little bit more of who Dior himself called "The Master of us all" but they are all grand and lovely and illustrate the timeless of fashion.

The shapes and materials used were just as experimental

Oscar de la Renta is known for his sophisticated, elegant attire, and for Fall 2011 he brought his wealthy, uptown look to global royalty as Russian Tsarina and Oriental princess-inspired looks stormed down the runway. My favourites were the Russian-themed looks, which brought to mind images of a young, modern Anastasia marrying her traditional Cossack attire with that of a glamorous American designer while on diplomatic visits with the American President.

De la Renta clearly experimented with degrees of traditional-meets-modern, as every look, while clearly part of his Cossack inspiration, was different from every other. One look might well have existed in Anastasia’s times, with a fur-rimmed hood, string of rubies as a necklace and a melee of a dress: a mishmash of Russian-themed prints above the waist and rolls of opulent fox fur below. Other looks, on the other hand, were almost completely modern: a gorgeous, floor length, highly embellished sequined gold dress with a form-fitting design and bandeau bodice was given only a hint of Russification by a traditional black fur Cossack hat.

The shapes and materials used were just as experimental: full fur and feather skirts were paired with boucle jackets and two-piece boucle suits were the perfect daytime foil to the dramatic embellished floor length evening gowns.

De la Renta can always be relied on to produce stunning, elegant clothing, and his Fall 2011 collection did not disappoint. The worldwide royalty theme only added to his much-loved sense of opulence and exoticism, and I for one would love to play dress up in his clothes fit for a princess.

After a strong box office doctor who dvds run back in November

After a strong box office doctor who dvds run back in November, director Tony Scott's action-thriller "Unstoppable" is the most well-known movie to hit DVD this week followed by Woody Allen's latest, "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger." Also hitting the home market this week is acclaimed documentary "Waiting for Superman" and new Blu-ray editions of some older classics like "Network," "Last Tango in Paris" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." With stars Chris Pine and Denzel Washington, "Unstoppable" caught on with action-seeking audiences and marked a return to form for director Tony Scott. Scott's last release, "The Taking of Pelham 123," was both a commercial and artistic failure, though "Unstoppable" was one of the better reviewed action movies of 2010. "Unstoppable" went on to gross $167 million worldwide, with more eli stone dvds than half its total revenue coming outside of the U.S. Based loosely on true events, "Unstoppable" is a classic high concept action film about a runaway train and the two men trying desperately to stop a disaster. "Unstoppable" was the second successful action release of the year for Washington, whose "The Book of Eli" was well received critically and also caught on at the box office. Washington won't release another movie until he co-stars in action-thriller "Safe House," which isn't slated to hit theaters until February of 2012.
One person you never have to wait long for is Woody Allen, who continues to pump out a movie a year as both the writer and director. Allen's 2010 effort "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" was politely received critically entourage seasons but hardly had much of a theatrical release. But like most Allen films, it still made money overseas despite failing in the U.S.
With an all-star cast that includes Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins and Naomi Watts, "Dark Stranger" is another Allen film with a romantic theme and philosophical pondering. True to form, Allen is already done shooting his next film, "Midnight in Paris," which stars Adrien Brody, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard and Owen Wilson. "Midnight" should hit Paris in May, with a U.S. release to follow sometime in the summer.
Also hitting stores this week will be "Waiting for Superman," which gives audiences a close-up look at the U.S. education system. Directed by Davis Guggenheim, whose "An Inconvenient Truth" caused some political ruffling, "Waiting for Superman" was praised as another provocative documentary about a problem that most Americans don't want to look at. Like most documentaries, "Waiting for Superman" should have a wider audience to appeal to in the home market.
“Unstoppable”: Denzel Washington has worked several times with action-specialist director Tony Scot, and they reteam on this effective, fact-inspired thriller that puts fresh spins on a time-tested premise of a train that's out of control. Washington plays an experienced engineer who's training a newcomer when they become the only hope of stopping a chemical-laden locomotive hurtling toward a town and its populace. Rosario Dawson also stars.
“You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger”: Woody Allen doesn't appear in his latest writing-directing effort, but the themes are familiar to anyone who has followed his work. The comedy-drama focuses on two couples — one played by Naomi Watts friends complete dvd and Josh Brolin and the other, Watts' character's parents, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins and Gemma Jones — who reach crossroads in their respective marriages due to unexpected love interests. Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto and Anna Friel also help form the ensemble cast.
“Waiting for ‘Superman'”: Director and co-writer ghost whisperer season Davis Guggenheim's acclaimed documentary examines the state of the U.S. public education system as mirrored by the experiences of five youngsters who have run into hurdles in the pursuit of advancing their learning. The film shows not just what is but what could be, a fact that prompted much conversation about the ideas posed by Guggenheim and his collaborators. John Legend is featured on the soundtrack. DVD extras: three “making-of” documentaries; audio commentary by Guggenheim and producer Lesley Chilcott; deleted scenes; conversation with Guggenheim.
“The Fugitive: The Fourth and Final Season, Vol. 2”: Dr. Richard Kimble's quest to gilmore girls dvds clear himself of having killed his wife reaches his ultimate moment, as he finds the elusive one-armed man and has a tense showdown, as relentless pursuer Lt. Gerard watches. This ABC drama did much to cement the home-screen dynasty of executive producer Quinn Martin.
“Glorious 39”: The number refers to the year in which this drama, involving several key figures of World War II, unfolds. Romola Garai plays a rising actress who's part of a political British family and also an amateur sleuth, following the death of a dinner guest who didn't make very positive statements about world affairs of the time. As she probes deeper, she puts others and herself in danger. Bill Nighy, Julie Christie, Hugh Bonneville, Jeremy Northam, Eddie Redmayne and Christopher Lee are in the impressive cast. “Love at First Kill”: A too-close connection between a mother ghost whisperer dvds and son generates a potentially deadly situation for anyone who comes between them in this melodrama.

North Dakota’s competitive U.S. office professional plus 2010 Office 2010 Pro House race

Running for office costly in 2010
During the 2009-10 campaign cycle, federal representatives and candidates for office in North Dakota accumulated enough political wealth to fund the Office 2007 operations of a small city.
The seven contenders Office Professional 2007 for federal office last year raised a combined total of $9.2 million, according to final campaign finance reports to the Federal Election Commission released this month.
That amount doesn’t include nearly $4.3 million raised by incumbent Sens. Kent Conrad Office 2010 and Byron Dorgan, who weren’t on the November ballot.
North Dakota’s competitive U.S. office professional plus 2010 Office 2010 Pro House race between Republican Rick Berg and Democrat Earl Pomeroy drew the most attention from political supporters, FEC records showed.
Pomeroy began the 2010 campaign with nearly $643,000 in the bank, an advantage from competing in past elections.
But during this campaign cycle alone, Windows 7 Pomeroy added more than $3 million to his war chest. Meanwhile, newcomer Berg amassed $2.1 million in his first bid for federal office.
However, the prosperity for both Berg and Pomeroy was short-lived due to the expensive campaigns the pair waged against each other.
Pomeroy, who lost the race, Windows 7 Home Premium reported $634 left in his campaign committee’s account and claimed no debt as of Dec. 31.
At the same time, Berg had nearly $26,100 remaining in his fund, but he also reported more than $154,000 in debt. About $100,000 of that is a personal loan Berg made to his campaign early in the race.
Meanwhile, FEC records for North Dakota’s U.S. Senate candidates revealed a financial showing as lopsided as the Election Day results.
Republican John Hoeven, who won the race, garnered more than $3.8 million in donations to boost his bid, amassing the most contributions of any one candidate, even above Conrad and Dorgan.
As of Dec. 31, Hoeven reported $892,300 in cash available and $100,000 in debt from a personal loan to his campaign.
By comparison, Hoeven’s opponent, Democrat Tracy Potter, raised the least amount of any candidate on the November ballot.
Potter collected more than $135,000 for his unsuccessful Senate bid, ending the year with $1,500 on hand after campaign expenses.
Republicans Paul Sorum, J.D. Donaghe and Kevin Cramer still had to report their financial activity to the FEC, even though they had unsuccessful bids for their party’s support in the Senate and House races.
The three candidates had raised about $128,000, as of May.
Dorgan, who retired last year rather than seeking re-election, had about $1.4 million remaining in his campaign war chest, as of Dec. 31.
During the campaign cycle, Dorgan whittled down some of his existing wealth and added donations by transferring money to political groups, such as the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party.
At the end of 2010, Conrad office 2010 reported $1.6 million in cash on hand, which he can distribute in similar fashion as Dorgan.
Conrad’s seat is on the 2012 ballot, but the veteran lawmaker said last month he wouldn’t seek another term. During the 2010 campaign, Conrad donated $175,000 from his war chest to the Dem-NPL.

“I’ve never been to this stadium or seen these guys play so it’s going to be exciting,” said New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris when interviewed on camera by a Palm Beach Post reporter during batting practice. “There’s a few, maybe two or three of our guys that enjoy baseball so they know who’s who, but it’s not really big [in New Zealand]. None of us have ever swung a bat before. It’s just not played in New Zealand.”

It’s the second game inside of a week that Black Caps players have attended after being knocked out of the World Twenty20 in the West Indies. Several players were present at Thursday night’s game between the Marlins and the New York Mets, which the Marlins won 2-1.

Monday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks was more special though as Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori and all-rounder Jacob Oram got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. On this occasion, the Marlins wound up losing 5-1.

However, it appears that the Marlins enjoyed their time before the game getting a little bit of cultural enrichment from their Kiwi guests. Reigning National League batting champion and two-time NL All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez padded up in some Black Caps kit to take a few slogs while pitcher Josh Johnson’s interest was piqued after finding out that cricket bowlers are allowed to aim at batsmen on purpose.

“I didn't know much about cricket before these guys came to visit, but I've got a good lesson now,” said Johnson in an article posted on the Miami Herald web site. “They're pretty cool.” The teams hung out and traded tips for about an hour and also exchanged autographed jerseys with each other.

This is not the first time the Black Caps have dealt with a professional baseball player on a first-hand basis. Former Black Caps fielding coach Travis Wilson was the first player from New Zealand to play in the minor leagues according to Baseball-Reference.com. Wilson was in the Atlanta Braves farm system from 1997-2003, getting as high as Triple-A Richmond. He then played for the Cincinnati Reds Double-A affiliate in Chattanooga for the 2004 season before heading back to New Zealand.

New Zealand will be taking on Sri Lanka in the Pearls Cup this weekend at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida. A pair of Twenty20 Internationals are scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday as part of a doubleheader on each day.
The other matchups will be a set of Twenty20 games between USA and Jamaica. USA will also be taking on Jamaica in a 50-over encounter on Friday.

Bent on exposing and bringing Office 2010 Key is powerful

Leaders of the so-called “Red Army Faction” (RAF), including Ulrike Meinhof and Andreas Baader, were involved in demonstrations, bombings, kidnappings, and even hijackings, all in the name of progressive resistance. They imagined themselves at war, bent on exposing and bringing Office 2010 Key is powerful!
Down what was, in their eyes, the enduring legacy of fascism in the postwar Bundesrepublik. About this violent history the film tries very hard to be fair. Perhaps a bit too hard. Events unfold chiefly from the point of view of the young protagonists. The effect, intentional or otherwise, is to cast the RAF in the softening light of anguished heroism. The leading actors are so credible that, Office 2010 is so powerful.
Perhaps inevitably, it is their human complexity alone that seizes one’s attention, right up to the moment when Meinhof and Baader, imprisoned and awaiting trial, commit suicide. What is largely absent from the film is a sense for the moral derangement—the absolute loss of perspective—that consumed the leadership of Germany’s radical left in those years. Many people use Microsoft Office 2010 to help their work and life.
To comprehend this history in its proper dimensions, one could hardly hope for a better guide than Hans Kundnani, an independent journalist based in London whose excellent book reconstructs the political agonies of the German Left from the sixties to the present day. Unlike Edel’s film which Download Office 2010 is so great.
Was inspired by Stefan Aust’s recent book of the same title), Kundnani does not indulge in dramaturgy, nor does he omit the worst parts. The detail is extraordinary, the tempo deliberate, the moral analysis unsparing. Kundnani wants us to see the idealism of the Achtundsechziger, the ‘68ers,' but also their depravity.
Ultimately, however, he tells a tale of political maturation. To be sure, this was the generation that saw the bombing of a department store as a symbolic defeat for capitalism. But it is also the office professional plus 2010 is convenient!
Generation of Joschka Fischer, a student radical in the late 60s, the Green Party’s representative to the Bundestag from 1983-85, Minister of the Environment for Hesse from 1991-94, and, MS Office 2010 is inexpensive and helpful.
Beginning in 1998, the leading figure in Germany’s so-called “Red-Green” coalition government, for which he served Gerhard Schr?der as foreign minister. Kundnani’s book is, in part, an attempt to explain how Fischer managed to break free from the pathologies of the German Left to become Office 2010 Pro is my love.
One of the more respected dignitaries in recent German political history. But it is also, more importantly, an attempt to explain how Germany’s postwar generation struggled to overcome the ghosts of the Nazi past. It succeeds at both tasks.office 2010 professional plus is very good!

The iconic cossie - along with other Fawcett

275x250.jpg The red swimsuit worn by Charlie’s Angels star Farrah Fawcett in that poster has gone on show at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.

The iconic cossie - along with other Fawcett items including include her personal Charlie’s Angels script - will now from part of the museum's pop culture collection.

Also donated by the estate of the actress, who died of cancer in 2009, is a Charlie’s Angels 1976 edition of Time magazine and original 1977 Farrah Fawcett doll.

But it's Fawcett's red swimming costume which is certain to attract the most attention… just like it did in the famous girl-next-door poster which sold an amazing 12 million copies. It was the swimsuit you were looking at, right?
Speaking of the Fawcett and the items, Brent D. Glass, director of the museum, said: "Farrah Fawcett has made an enduring impression on American popular culture. We are pleased to welcome this donation into our entertainment collections."

Farrah’s longtime boyfriend, Ryan O’Neal added: "It’s an honor to see Farrah’s famous red bathing suit donated to the Smithsonian Institution, celebrating her place in pop culture.

"The swimsuit is exactly where it belongs, and I know Farrah is looking down on us today flashing that big smile that we all loved."

Fawcett got her start in Hollywood through a series of TV commercials. Following the great success of the television series and the poster, Fawcett quickly became a household name and style icon.

Her image was featured on hundreds of worldwide magazine covers, and her signature feathered hairdo was copied by women throughout the world who wanted the “Farrah” hairstyle.

After she left the show, Fawcett turned her attention to film roles, made-for-TV movies and stage plays.
